Asheville, One Year After Hurricane Helene: Why We Chose to Invest in the Mountains

  • Posted on

When Hurricane Helene swept through Western North Carolina last year, Asheville was forever changed. The storm brought record rainfall, flooding, and landslides that tested the strength of this vibrant mountain town. Beloved neighborhoods like Biltmore Village and the River Arts District were submerged, roads were cut off, and countless families and businesses faced the daunting task of rebuilding.

And yet — through the challenges — Asheville’s resilience shined. Locals came together to support one another, artists reopened their studios, restaurants returned “back to the basics,” and the mountains themselves began to heal. A year later, Asheville is still writing its recovery story — but what’s clear is the spirit of creativity, community, and renewal is stronger than ever.

Why Everwild Retreats Invested

In moments of rebuilding, many might step back. At Everwild Retreats, we felt called to lean in. Asheville has always been a place of inspiration — where the natural beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains meets a thriving arts culture. After Helene, we saw not only the scars but also the opportunity to be part of Asheville’s next chapter.

Our decision to invest was rooted in three beliefs:

  • Resilience & Renewal — Asheville is a city that knows how to rise again, and we wanted to contribute to that spirit.

  • Creating Meaningful Retreats — In a post-storm world, travelers crave spaces that feel restorative. Our retreats are designed for guests to reconnect with nature, community, and themselves.

  • Community Commitment — By building thoughtfully and working with local partners, we aim to be more than visitors — we want to be part of Asheville’s long-term story of recovery and growth.

The Glass House & Gallery House

Our Asheville properties were born from this vision: to create design-forward, nature-immersed retreats that celebrate both beauty and resilience.

The Glass House
Floor-to-ceiling windows frame sweeping mountain views, bringing the outdoors in at every angle. Whether you’re sipping coffee on the deck at sunrise or soaking in the hot tub under starry skies, the Glass House is all about connection — to nature, to family, to quiet moments.

The Gallery House
Modern and artful, the Gallery House combines Scandinavian design with the warmth of the Blue Ridge. With a heated hydro-pool swim spa, hot tub, cold plunge, and treetop decks, it’s a retreat that blends wellness and wonder. Perfect for families, groups, or wellness-minded getaways.

Together, the Glass House and Gallery House create a unique retreat compound, able to host intimate escapes or larger gatherings. Guests often book them side-by-side, turning a mountain stay into a true Everwild experience.

Looking Forward

Asheville’s story is still unfolding — but we believe in its future. By opening the doors of the Glass and Gallery Houses, our hope is to offer guests not just a place to stay, but a place to heal, to celebrate, and to be inspired by the resilience of these mountains and the people who call them home.

We invite you to come see Asheville one year after Helene — not just for what was lost, but for all that has been rebuilt.
